Mercury Toxicity

Mercury ToxicitySome of the most common topics that I get asked about are on “mercury toxicity,” “heavy metal detoxification” and “why fish oils are bad?” Here are several of the most recent questions that fall under these themes with my answers to them.

Q. “What should I look for when choosing a fish oil supplement?”

A. The body requires omega-3 essential fatty acids for a number of functions including, but certainly not limited to normal brain function, normal cell function and controlling inflammation.

Studies have shown that quality omega-3 essential fatty acids are as good, and in some cases better at controlling pain due to inflammation, and with no negative side effects that are often seen with prescription and over the counter medications. Everyone from birth to grave can benefit from omega-3s. Most people seek to get omega-3s from eating fish, but the concern I have with getting omega-3s from fish is the fact that our oceans are so polluted, that there is a risk that the oils can be contaminated with mercury and other heavy metals. Excitotoxins – A Word You Need To Know

What are Excitotoxins?

ExcitotoxinsExcitotoxins are chemicals either added to food or found in food that cause an overstimulation of the nervous system which can cause the cells to be destroyed. These chemicals are found in almost all processed foods.

The most common excitotoxins are aspartame (an artificial sweetener) and monosodium glutamate (commonly known as MSG).

The way they cause damage to the body, in a nutshell, is these chemical stimulate glutamate receptors. Glutamate receptors are part of the nerve complex that is stimulated by glutamate (an amino acid), and aspartic acid, which is found in aspartame. If these receptors get overexcited, the nerve cells can virtually excite themselves to death. These receptors are found abundantly in the brain, but are also found throughout the body. Glutamate is one of the most abundant neurotransmitters (chemicals that make nerves function) in the brain. It is used to keep the brain alert. The glutamate receptors play a role in learning, memory, endocrine system control and emotions. When we get too much of it is when the nerves become overexcited and can start to malfunction. Detox Your Bathroom for Health – Why and How

Detox your home starting with your bathroom. Let me ask you this:

DetoxIs your bathroom poisoning you?

If you are like most of us, you start your morning by heading to the bathroom to get ready to face the day. Let’s talk about what happens when you perform your rituals and how you might be adversely affecting your health and the health of your family. You might not know it, but the soaps, lotions, creams, toothpaste, deodorants, sprays, shampoos, and even the laundry soaps you use on your towels might be the reasons you have less than perfect health.

Why detox your bathroom?

Let’s talk about what you might normally do, and what we can do to solve the problem and keep you healthy. If you shave, man or woman, you probably start by putting some hot water on your skin to soften the whiskers, then apply shaving cream. The shaving cream lathers up and we think that it is a good thing. However the shaving cream is loaded with toxic chemicals. One of the very bad chemicals in most shaving creams is sodium lauryl sulfate. This is also found in most soap and helps to make creams and soaps foam up. It can cause skin irritation, dry skin, and can cause vision problems if it gets in the eyes or is absorbed into the skin. If you use hot water when shaving, the hot water will open up the pores of your skin and give the chemicals an open route into your body. Sodium lauryl sulfate exposure can also lead to headache, difficulty breathing, and hair loss. If you cut yourself shaving, the chemicals have a clear path directly into your blood system. Read More→
